When Pets Beautiful opened in 1968, Dunbar was still a small community. Over the years the dog grooming business has grown along with the neighbourhood and its families. "Some customers have been coming for over 30 years with different family dogs!" says April Ross, who, after working with the original owner Jeannine, for 28 years, took over the business when Jennine retired in August 2004.

One of the reasons customers keep returning is the grooming technique used here. Experience handling and relating to dogs takes years to learn, and when the groomer is able to produce practical, easy to care styles while not agitating the pet, the pet becomes more trusting and relaxed. "I try to leave enough hair for the dog to still have style even if it's quite matted, and one of my gentle grooming techniques is that I don't use combs on mats."

It is this perfect combination of being able to produce savvy styles while maintaining trusting relationships with the dogs and their owners that makes Pets Beautiful exceptional in what it does.
